Sam Mix Gibson

Sam at Sam Mix Gibson asked me to design and build a bespoke large control room to cater for 5.1 surround sound. The studio was to be built on top of a steel and timber mezzanine floor with a commercial client directly below. There were no height issues, which allowed me to be very creative with the room-ratio.

The floating floor had to be pretty substantial as to not disturb the neighbours as well as not interfere with the studio operation. Once the design was completed, our structural engineer produced the necessary load calculations required for the landlord. It took 8 hours and 8 labours to lift all the materials into our client’s space.

Construction of the floating floor, external walls and ventilation took 6 weeks. Installing the transparent internal framework and acoustic treatment and fabric took another 2 weeks. It was a quick build made easier with high ceiling access.
